01 · Overview

Where it is & what it feels like

Oak Hill isn't one subdivision but a whole area of Southwest Austin built around the “Y,” where US 290 and SH 71 split, spread across parts of the 78735, 78736, 78737 and 78749 ZIP codes. It was a separate rural community until Austin annexed it in the 1980s, and it still has a Hill Country feel at the edge of the city.

Different pockets feel very different: 1960s–70s ranch homes on big lots, 1980s–90s subdivisions, and newer homes from the 2010s and 2020s. TxDOT's Oak Hill Parkway rebuild of the Y (targeted for completion around mid-2026) adds nonstop US 290 lanes toward downtown, which should make daily commutes easier once it's fully open.

What you'll find here

The housing stock

Single-family homes range from older ranch houses on large, tree-covered lots to 1980s–90s two-stories and newer builds. Condos and townhomes offer a lower-cost way in, starting well below single-family prices.

Some areas back to greenbelt or have Hill Country views; lot sizes and HOA rules vary a lot by subdivision.
